Membership Details

We've eliminated the yearly subscription fee for all members. All members with an un-expired subscription from our old site will be pleased to hear that all remaining credit from your old membership has been carried over into your new account. In addition to that, all existing members have been given a $10.00 credit to spend as they wish.

How has the site changed? The most noticeable difference is that we will now offer and charge for the often requested functions of being able to print and download our maps from your home computer. Another great new feature is the ability to view a historical map overlaid on a modern map. This our new geocode feature. To access these functions you will need an account with at least $0.02 in credits. To use these premium functions in an example, each time you print one of our maps on your home computer, $2 will be debited from your account, each time you save or download one of our maps in PDF format $15 will be deducted from your account, and $0.05 will be required to view the geocode data for a map.

Non-account holders and new account holders enjoy access to the following functions:
  • unlimited keyword and town name searches for maps
  • unlimited browse by geographical regions for maps
  • unlimited thumbnail viewing
  • limited pan and zoom functions on the map display page
  • complete access to our online print and gift order pages
After creating your free account, you'll have the opportunity to add money to your account allowing you to:
  • print maps at home
  • save map images in .jpg to your local computer
  • save map images in .pdf to your local computer
  • save links to your favorite maps in your account
  • access the complete pan and zoom functions on the map display page
  • search for maps via the address lookup function
  • view available geocode data side-by-side on a modern map
  • receive credits back for every comment approved for use in our map comments section

Directories and Enhanced Zoom are free, but you must have a positive balance in your account. This chart reflects the most current prices as of July 03, 2008. Historic Map Works reserves the right to alter future transaction costs.




When an account holder's balance drops below $0.02, additional funds will need to be added to the account to restore access to the premium functions. To allow you to experiment with the new premium features, we are allowing all visitors free access to Passaic County New Jersey, 1877. With a membership and an account, you will have similar access to every map in our collection. Please try out our new site by printing the maps and illustrations from this atlas, download images to be used for your own personal use, display the geocoded map next to a modern satellite view, and try the full address search capabilities.

While browsing the site, if you cannot find a map covering the area you want, please check back often as we plan to digitalize and upload 700 additional American land atlases (containing approx 30,000 additional American maps and 10,000 illustrations and histories) within the next few months. Once these are online, we plan add an additional 80,000 illustrations and histories as well as an additional 98,000 antiquarian maps from the Osher Library Collection.
